Pat’s On Periscope – Show 17

Monday was  a VERY windy day and with that comes the chance to download Weather Apps to your phone.  My favorite is the KIMT-TV Weather App, but many sites have their own.  One key thing to keep in mind is do NOT link your social media account to the app.  There is no reason for that and if they want your personal information, maybe it’s time to look at another app.

We also talk about a topic which was covered on The Dr. Phil Show a few weeks ago and this was keeping kids safe and NOT to talk to strangers on line.  Parents should have access to their child’s Social Media accounts and log into them now and then.  Search the chat areas of the phone and to the other places where photos may have come into the phone.

One guy helped parents wake kids up over this whole issue in this video — You may be shocked!

Random Access – Show #1

After MANY MONTHS (over a year) of talking about it, it is finally here — my FIRST “Random Access” video!  This video recaps the 2015 Parade Season for The Computer Guy and as you can see, I chat it up with a whole bunch of local folks around North Iowa in the communities I serve!  Enjoy!

Pat’s On Periscope – Show 16

First of all, I can’t believe I’ve done this show for 16 weeks and second of all, I still can’t figure out why I can’t remember where the settings are for getting my stand height to be the same ever week.  Ugh!

Domestic violence affects so many people and in many cases it just cripples a family’s physical and mental health.  I was watching Dr. Phil the other day and he and his wife developed an app for your mobile phone that will text pre-assigned messages to friends and a recorded message to 911.  I thought it was so valuable, I decided to feature it this week in my show.  More information on the “Aspire News” app can be found by watching this video from Dr. Phil and his wife, Robin.

We also discuss the Microsoft call hoax, which I featured here last week and I talk about the Midwest Social Media Summit.  “Summit” is the 2016 buzzword of the year — everything is now a summit, but I know folks will really get a lot out of the event on October 24th at NIACC.

Blabbing About Periscope!

I sat down with Melody Jones from Colorado and used “Blab” for the first time and discussed the ways I share my Periscope videos to YouTube.  Blab is similar to Google Hangouts, but it seemed to work a bit better.  It’s a Twitter product, or at least you use your Twitter handle to get into it.  We discussed a few tips for Periscope and also how to upload your “Scope” to YouTube for repurposing.  For me, why put the work into something, to not save it and use a few other times in other areas of Social Media??!

A few basic things include: Restart the phone, put your phone on Do Not Disturb, clean the front and back lenses, speak in a steady and confident voice, use #hashtags to get the Periscope noticed in specialized topics and just be yourself with plenty of content!

I did a screen recording of our session, but the original link can be found here:

Thanks for the Blab, Melody!
